In this role you will be

• Building and refining the core technological engine of EcoCart - matching and calculating the carbon emissions of any consumer purchase
• Putting together best-practice processes for the entire team that enable us to scale fast, but thoughtfully
• Understanding high-level business requirements and use those to guide product feature design without hand-holding from the rest of the team
• Maintaining the long-term quality and stability of the platform
• Implementing automated and manual testing strategies to maintain the highest quality user experience
• Working cross functionally to develop tools that enable growth at breakneck speeds

We are looking for

• Minimum of 1 year in a startup environment (under 100 people) and a startup mindset, biasing towards thoughtful action with minimal direction.
• A hands on machine learning software engineer with a passion for working on deep infrastructure issues in ML environments
• You communicate fluidly, at the level of your audience, and seek to understand and be understood
• You have a customer first mindset
• You understand how to prioritize and drive the most impactful Back End infrastructure work given a company's mission and purpose
• You have the ability to take on complex problems, learn quickly, iterate, and persist towards a good solution
• Senior level experience or MS or PhD in computer science with a focus on ML
• 3+ years of industry experience as a hands on expert-level practitioner of machine learning
• 3+ years of experience leading large ML initiatives across cross functional teams in multiple organizations
• Track record of building and maintaining large scale machine learning systems in production
• Track record of conceiving of significant innovations that result in substantial positive impact to customers
• Deep understanding of latest developments of ML systems, techniques, open source and cloud offerings
• Fluent in one or more Object Oriented languages

Bonus points

• Experience working with Shopify
• Experience with PyTorch, or at least another major deep learning framework such as TensorFlow, MXNet.
• Some experience with data science tools including Python scripting, numpy, scipy, matplotlib, scikit-learn, jupyter notebooks, bash scripting, Linux environment.
• Experience with PHP, specifically work with symfony applications
• Past experience building out large scale APIs and developing their infrastructure is a huge bonus!
