Early Childhood Educator (EHS) - $15.97 per hour
Job Summary
Enhance and support parent-child relationships by implementing a home-based Early Head Start program for pregnant moms and families of infants and toddlers. Partners with community agencies. Provides individualized and comprehensive health and development services to women before, during, and after pregnancy. Partners with families to enhance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children (birth to 36 months).
Essential Functions
    • Each week conducts one home visit with the parents and children of each family, integrating information on child development, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services, promoting and supporting the families’ achievement of self-sufficiency.
    • Works with families to develop weekly individualized lesson plans, utilizing household materials in educational activities.
    • Completes 45 and 90 day health and education requirements.
    • Collaborates with other community agencies to provide individualized services for infants and toddlers with disabilities.
    • In conjunction with parents and co-workers, plans, implements and evaluates group socialization experiences to be held a minimum of twice a month in a center-based or community environment.
    • Provides prenatal and parenting information to expectant parents. Provides resources and/or referrals for each family in areas such as health, nutrition, social services and mental health. Documents all services and follow-up treatment as necessary.
    • Submits written reports for each home visit and socialization. Completes all required record-keeping and internal and external reporting tasks in a timely and objective manner, in accordance with Child Plus and other applicable tracking systems, as requested.
    • Conducts developmental screenings and on-going assessment of the developmental progress of infants and toddlers, including parents in all aspects of services
    • Collaborates with families, co-workers, community partners and the general public to further program goals, respond to questions, problem solve and establish effective working relationships.
    • Attends all scheduled child and family staffing’s, advising appropriate coordinator/manager of health, family services or education concerns; prepares reports as required. Team to assure the successful transition of Early Head Start children into Head Start.
    • Complies with FOCAF policies regarding the reporting of abuse and neglect.
    • Remains up to date with policies and practices.
    • Effectively responds, communicates with and presents information to co-workers, customers, clients, vendors, and general public in a courteous and timely manner.
    • Must have general social skills and ability to get along well with others.
    • Maintains both electronic and hard copy filing systems commensurate with the needs of FOCAF and in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
    • Frequently transports to home visits and various other locations as needed to perform job duties.
    • Assists with Family Fun Nights, including set up, sign up for tasks, actively participating during the event and clean up.
    • Participates in reflective supervision at least once a month for 90 minutes
    • Reviews Emergency Action Plan for all drills.
    • Regularly involves and encourages parents to volunteer within all components of program.
    • Demonstrates commitment for professional development and continuous growth by actively seeking out and participating in training opportunities.
    • Engages with supervisor and co-workers on constructive and timely feedback, accepting feedback as a growth opportunity, and is open to continuous improvement for oneself and the organization.
Additional Functions
    • Completes special projects at the request of management.
    • Provides information when requested about policies, procedures, and methods used in FOCAF operations.
    • Actively contributes suggestions during team efforts to formulate or revise policies and procedures.
    • Maintains shared work areas in an orderly manner. Properly use and store office materials.
    • Ability to demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
    • Must be available to work evening shift and/or irregular hours if required.
    • Ability to reflect on and express one’s feelings and be able to empathize with the feelings and perspectives of others.
    • Problem solves and contains conflict.
    • Manages time efficiently, tolerates a high level of paperwork and documentation.
    • Maintains confidentiality.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures in compliance with Head Start Performance, and FOCAF Standards.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance if there is a need to travel locally during the course of the job duties.
    • Prioritizes and manages multiple tasks.
Qualifications
    • Home Visitor CDA, or an Associate or Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, Social Work, Human Services or related field.
    • Two years’ experience working with parents, infants and toddlers from diverse populations preferred.
    • An understanding of adult learning preferred.
    • Complete and maintain certificates for Infant/Child CPR, First Aid and Food Handler’s license.
    • A work ethic that values dependability, responsibility, flexibility and a sense of fun.
    • Ability to operate a personal computer on a network, using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.
    • Must pass a Health Physical Screen and TB test; must be able to lift 45 pounds in emergency situations.
    • Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and FOCAF Head Start standards.
    • Must pass drug test and submit to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
    • Access to reliable transportation.
    • Occasional out of local area travel to training related to Early Head Start, child development or Parents as Teachers (PAT) training.
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions
